Background video on the homepage — dated or still fine?

I am a wedding videographer so showing motion matters, but every speed guide tells me to bin the hero video.
Compromise I am considering: a muted 6 second loop at 720p, poster image on mobile. Is that the sensible middle ground or am I fooling myself?

Keep it under 2MB and self host rather than embedding YouTube — the embed loads more script than your entire homepage.

Your compromise is the right one, with one addition: never autoplay the video on mobile, use the poster and a play button. Mobile users on 4G will bounce before the first frame.

720p, 6 seconds, 1.6MB, poster on mobile. Speed score barely moved and enquiries are up. Reporting back as promised.
